Are we there yet?

Western Iowa is just as beautiful as I’d imagined - pastoral, with rolling fields and huge farms. We made it to Des Moines last night, just as it started to drizzle, and this morning, it’s still pretty wet. So far, we haven’t seen much of eastern Iowa because the fog is quite thick. It does feel like we’re getting closer to “civilization,” though. Towns are getting closer together, and the stretches between towns seem to have many large farms between them. We stayed in yet another Motel 6 last night (Evan has this brand loyalty, not sure where it comes from) and I’m feeling a little out of it this morning. I didn’t realize how strange driving through four timezones would be. We keep losing an hour, and I feel like the nights are going by way too fast. I’m craving my own bed and a floor that I’m not afraid to walk on with bare feet. Unfortunately, based on your Facebook updates, I think it’s raining all the way back to New York. I’m still hoping the sun appears for a little while, at least when I get behind the wheel. Driving in the rain is no fun. No fun at all.
